November 9th, 2008

This year’s Special Edition Black Rifle at AR15.com is a Spike’s Tactical dedicated .22:

Available in two models:

  • A high-quality upper with all the trimmings:
Spike’s Mil-spec Flat top upper t-marked and laser engraved with AR15.com SEBR 2008 on the side, Daniel Defense 9.0 Lite rail, Lothar Walther 16″ M4 Match grade barrel, Front and Rear Troy Sites, Spike’s Tactical .22 bolt, Bird cage FH, and Daniel Defense Sling QD. $1060
  • A “plain” M4 upper
Spike’s Mil-spec Flat top upper t-marked and laser engraved with AR15.com SEBR 2008 on the side, Lothar Walther 16″ M4 Match grade barrel, M4 handguards, Spike’s Tactical .22 bolt, Bird cage FH, and flat top gas block w/sling loop. $620

The price on the high-quality model is obviously steep, but look at the top shelf components. Maybe a bit much for a .22 upper, but if you’re looking for the best, this has got to be on the short list. The “plain” model is nothing to sneeze at, either, it looks like, and is obviously more affordable. Engraved matching lowers are also available, as are 10 and 27 round magazines.

Yes, there are less expensive ways to get a .22 AR. This is supposed to be a special way to go black rifle plinking. For more info, pictures, and discussion, see AR15.com.

Holy crap! I had no idea that a .22 was the same as a 5.56mm. Your article made me do the calculation. We’re sending our men out to fight terrorists with a frickin’ .22!?!?!? I hope there’s something I’m missing here, because sometimes I’ll hit a squirrel with a .22, and it keeps on living.
