Democrats buying more guns?

November 28th, 2008

This story is gaining traction. Hard to tell whether it’s just being driven by a desire to push stories or if it’s really an emerging phenomenon.

Oh come on, I’m a Democrat & been buyin’ (& usin’) guns for years…

Practically everyone in Butte America is a Democrat, gun owner, and hunter.

Heck, if Republicans & the NRA would start supporting public land and wildlife management, I might join up.

Everytime we elect a Republican to represent Montana they try to sell off & privatize the National Forest lands or some such anti-hunter nonsense.

First, I don’t think anyone on the pro-gun side of the aisle is opposed to Democrats buying guns. We’re all very glad to see it.

There is a certain amount of irony, of course, as the Democratic party leadership is and has been generally anti-gun and virtually all anti-gun types are Democrat/Liberal.

That’s what the gunbloggers are noting when we note these types of stories. It’s not that it’s shocking that Democrats buy guns. It’s just that it helps prove our point that people want to exercise their rights, even those who (gasp!) stand with the Democrats.

Now, I suspect that the media’s sudden excitement about the Dems Buying Guns story is based on shock that otherwise-sensible people would do something so illogical as buy firearms. The media is so totally out of touch with regular Americans in general and with gun owners specifically that it’s rather amusing to see them wet themselves over Democrats buying guns.

When Republican/Conservative types come out in favor of gay rights or abortion, it’s generally portrayed as a brave line-crossing maverick seeing the light. When a Democrat buys a gun it’s astounding that reasonable people could do such a thing.

Here’s a good(if lengthy…about 23 pages the way I printed it) article by the late Michael Crichton about how well government has managed lands and wildlife.

So what do you think is ogvernmetns motive for doing a good job managing ANYTHING?

Everytime we elect a Republican to represent Montana they try to sell off & privatize the National Forest lands or some such anti-hunter nonsense.”

Try as I might in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution, I find nothing about managing land, wildlife, or anything else.

Of course, YOUR 2nd Amendment is precious, right?
