Like I said at the time of that announcement, what annoys me is that the release is written like a man doing a poor job of trying to imagine what a woman would be impressed by with pink grips. I don’t know any woman who consider that shade of neon pink to be “fashion-conscious.”
I’m all for fun colors, but sometimes I think the industry has a tendency to still talk to women like they are being cute instead of as real buyers. That doesn’t mean ditching fun colors or cute gun offerings, just make sure not to cross that very fine line when the ads could come off as demeaning instead of celebrating the diversity of options.

Bitter: I see what you’re saying, and I don’t disagree one bit. If the shooting sports are to survive, women have to be a big part of it. And they need to be treated like adults. Camo lingerie isn’t going to get the job done.
However, in this case I guess I took the style to be one meant FOR MEN who might be thinking of what to get for “the little woman.” That’s what *I* meant by my tongue-in-cheek post title. But I don’t know.
I guess I see it as talking a little dumb to guys who need to be talked to that way and don’t have the first clue about gift-buying for women. Being a guy, I see it that way.
If I were a woman, I’d quite possibly see it (and a whole lot else, LOL) quite differently. There’s no doubt that the industry has a lot of catch-up to do. But I think they’re at least starting to get a clue.
For the record, I’ve never been able to figure out why pink guns would be cool to anyone except as a “wow, look at this” type thing. But, because I am a guy, I don’t think I’d know one way or the other whatever the color was. I have no sense of fashion.

Don’t worry, I wasn’t talking about your post. It was the press release that annoyed me.
There was a guy at a show who had a pink revolver he was trying to sell, and the only time I saw him target his pitch for it to a woman was when a girl in her early 20s with pink hair walked up and was looking at some other guns. He made a joke about having a gun that would match her hair, and she loved the idea since she obviously loves pink. (As a former blue, purple, green, red, and silver-haired woman, I would not be offended by such a pitch.)
To be honest, I think that other than simply featuring some females for a little gender equality in ads, these types of releases don’t actually need to make an explicit pitch to women. In our movement, I think women are much more confident in being equals. If they see something that appeals to them, they won’t make excuses, they’ll just buy it.

Now what would be interesting (I think) would be announcement from a gun manufacturer promoting a new series of grip shapes and sizes more tailored to the average female hand. its pretty clear, even to me, that women and men seem to come in different shapes and sizes, and I suppose that applies to hand and finger dimensions as well. I realize many guns now have small and large grip size options, but the small / large approach alone certainly is not enough to differentiate mens and womens clothing!
