Not Pink: SHE Outdoor Apparel

December 5th, 2008

A couple of days ago, Bitter brought up a great point in the comments section of a post on the pink Crimson Trace:

Like I said at the time of that announcement, what annoys me is that the release is written like a man doing a poor job of trying to imagine what a woman would be impressed by with pink grips. I don’t know any woman who consider that shade of neon pink to be “fashion-conscious.”

I’m all for fun colors, but sometimes I think the industry has a tendency to still talk to women like they are being cute instead of as real buyers.

Here’s something not quite so pink and stereotypical:

SHE Safari: Clothing for HER Expedition

Looks to me like it’s real outdoor clothing styled and fitted for women. So often the girls are left either wearing baggy men’s clothing that just doesn’t fit quite right or imitation outdoor clothing cut for the female form. For hunting and the shooting sports to continue to grow, women and girls need to be made to feel welcome and to be treated like adults. I think the industry is making great strides in this area, but there’s still a ways to go.

Though Murdoc hasn’t tried this SHE Safari stuff out (and wouldn’t blog about it even if he had) it looks like the real deal.

Just so we’re clear, I don’t universally condemn pink. I personally don’t like it, but I celebrate it as an option. I like free markets that offer more options. :)

But, let’s sell it as an option, as this clothing line does, and not pretend it’s something it’s not.

I think this was an excellent balance to the Crimson Trace release.

Whew! The last thing I wanted was Bitter on my case!

There are actually at least four women’s hunting clothing companies that make serious hunting clothes: SHE Safari, Foxy Huntress, Prois Hunting Apparel, and the newest, Trailfeathers. And don’t worry, I’m not a spammer – I’m just a woman hunter and blogger who reviews women’s hunting clothing, and I like to spread the word that there are (non-pink!) options for us.

I’ve tried all of there stuff and it’s generally very good. There are a few other companies out there, but when I see too many camo teddies on their websites, I lose interest.

    Ooops, make that “their stuff.”
