If all else fails, hire a lobbyist

Wizbang guest poster on serialized ammo proponents:
I’m sure they were shocked to discover ammo manufacturers didn’t want to subject their customers to higher costs, the tedium of record-keeping red tape, and addition to a government-maintained ammunition database. Beyond the obvious impact higher prices has on product demand, firearm companies recognize that their customers aren’t fond of expanding government intrusion on their Second Amendment rights. But in today’s America a flawed business model and lack of demand for one’s products doesn’t have to lead to failure. You can always find a sympathetic ear at the statehouse – particularly when there’s a chance to pass “common sense” legislation addressing a hot button issue.
A year ago I would have welcomed this effort in a way. Votes and decisions were almost always going in favor of gun owners and gun manufacturers.
Today the environment is much more questionable.
As I’ve said repeatedly, the next battleground is going to be ammo and magazines.

It’s already a battleground in Europe. The EU, after socialist and other leftwing parties have failed to ban individual gun ownership in the member countries (socialist and green party have tried so at least 3 times in the past 5 years in Austria), wants to introduce a database for ammunition. They also want to introduce the need for having a permit that autorizes you to carry a loaded weapon if you’re a hunter.
European citizens have been massively disarmed by their governments. And the irony in this? In all those countries the crime rates are going through the roof.
