Who would have ever seen this coming?

Robb on the the old divide and conquer rolling along:

Hunters who think nothing of selling out other’s rights simply because they don’t feel that certain classes of weapons are good enough for their sport are about to get a wake up call.

Staten Island District Attorney Daniel Donovan dismissed the notion hunting rifles and shotguns are not the type of weapons authorities need to be worried about, noting they can cause harm if poorly safeguarded or stolen by burglars.

“Taking these off the streets is as important as the taking the handguns off the streets,” he said.

That loud “bang” you just heard was the sound of a lot of hunters not noticing.

The next big battle, I continue to think, is going to be over ammunition and magazines. They’ve had little luck with a new AWB, and unless that changes under Obama they’re going to shift gears and try to tax, regulate, and/or ban certain types of ammunition. Things like .223 and 7.62 Russian, for instance, because they’re “terrorist” rounds designed “only to kill people” and who (besides cop killers) “needs” that sort of ammunition anyway.

If they’re successful on this front, and I fear they’ve got a fighting chance, it won’t be long after that someone suddenly realizes, for the first time ever*, that virtually every hunting round out there is significantly more powerful than “assault weapon” ammunition.

If we banned the .223 because it’s too powerful,” they’ll say, “surely the .308 and the .30-06 and the 7mm have to go, too.

The splits between the various factions in the shooting world need to be addressed.
