SHOT: Arsenal – Milled Receiver AK

February 1st, 2008

Well, I spent the day at a couple of shooting ranges in the Vegas area trying out some of the good stuff. The first stop was Arsenal Inc., a company local to Las Vegas.

My favorite offering was their milled receiver AK.

Now, Murdoc owns a Romanian WASR, and though the Arsenal shares many characteristics with the WASR they are not in the same class. While the WASR is a good, cheap, rifle for general purpose shooting and backyard fun, the Arsenal is good, solid weapon. The milled receiver adds a little heft and a lot of solidity, and it’s built out of new, precision components rather than used, Eastern Bloc parts.

The trigger was smooth and, after a couple of warm-up rounds, I shot as well as I ever have with my WASR. It’s an AK, but if your only experience with AKs is with cheap retreads (not that there’s anything wrong with that!), you’ll be surprised at the quality.
