Even Wolf steel case is hard to come by

It’s the sound you never want to hear. But at a strategic level, the chamber is clear. The hammer is falling on nothing. You reach into the mag pouch and find only empties.

Nationwide Ammunition Shortage Hits U.S.

Much of the demand comes from continued high law enforcement demand, the same demand that led to shortages two years ago. Police agencies around the nation have become more militarized in recent years and two trends within this militarization have led to greater police ammunition demand.

Everyone, police agencies included, is stockpiling ammo. I know that I’ve added a little (though not nearly enough) to my own stash. To be honest, I was betting that falling raw material costs would be bringing ammo prices down a bit, but the demand has far outstripped the supply.

A year and a half ago the press tried to blame high ammo costs on the war in Iraq, but the claim was tenuous at best. Today, with the fighting in Iraq winding down and the number of shots fired dropping dramatically, the ammo shelves are still looking a bit bare.

Barack Obama, the nation’s greatest gun salesman.

Well if the LE agencies are stockpiling ammo then at least we know where to get it in a pinch…
