Nothing to Hide?

February 6th, 2008

From Florida is Bottom of the Barrel on Gun Control by Calvin Godfrey at Miami News Times:

I like my guns too, people. But I don’t want them purchased at gun shows by crazy people and criminals. I don’t have a problem with the ATF knowing where my guns are because I’m not insane and don’t believe that a black helicopter will land on my roof in the middle of the night and federal agents will slide down my chimney to raid my safe.

He starts with the “gun show loophole” nonsense and then dives right into the “I don’t have anything to hide so I don’t care if the government is watching” game.

This is, of course, interesting. Legal gun owners in New Orleans were probably surprised when the local law enforcement agencies showed up and required that all legal guns be turned over immediately. Many of those folks still haven’t had their guns returned.

Yeah, it’s the article where he claims that pro-gun types

would like nothing more than to unload all of your various weapons into the belly of the already-paralyzed Jim Brady.

Subtle.

Meanwhile, I just emailed Godfrey to ask him about his opinion on the federal government listening in on his telephone conversations even though he’s not (presumably) a suspected terrorist.
