Obama in Mexico

April 17th, 2009

Obama blames U.S. guns in Mexico

Meeting face-to-face with Mexican President Felipe Calderon, President Obama on Thursday said the U.S. is to blame for much of Mexico’s drug violence, and he set up a major congressional gun-control battle by calling on the Senate to ratify a treaty designed to track and cut the flow of guns to other countries.

Mr. Obama said he wants to renew a ban on some semiautomatic weapons but that it is not likely to pass Congress. Instead, he called for the Senate to ratify a decade-old hemispherewide treaty that would require nations to mark all weapons produced in the country and track them to make sure no weapons were exported to countries where they were banned.

Obama again stated that 90% of the guns used recovered from criminals in Mexico originated in the United States. I thought that the 90% number referred to guns confirmed by the ATF after originally being submitted as originating in the US. The actual number originating in the US was 17%.

I’ve been unable to keep up with things lately. Did I miss something? Was this bogus and the number really is 90%? Or is the President just lying again?

It’s still a lie. 90% of the 17% that could be traced came from the U.S. They never drilled down further – how many of them were originaly sold to the Mexican military/police versus those sold throgh a U.S. gunshop.

It’s back-door gun regulation based on lies. Fox News reports it. everyone else pretends what BO says is true.

Yet again President Obama wanders around the planet blaming everyone else’s worries on us. Great foreign policy.

A lie. Of course Barry is lieing, his lips were moving. I listened to NPR’s All Things Considered last night and they interviewed some guy that repeated Barry’s words and the 90% lie, without the NPR reporter questioning the number. So today I sent NPR an email requesting that they research the facts and quit repeating this obvious lie.

It’s NPR, so it isn’t likely that they will ever take anything but the liberal attitude and keep repeating the lie. But at least I called them on it.

Remarkable! NPR did a story tonight admitting the numbers were unsubstantiated and wrong! They weaseled at the end and had an interviewer make up some numbers but they admitted that they had repeated numbers without researching them! I was reading No Country For Old Men last week and there was a scene in the book that wasn’t in the movie towards the end where a reporter asked Tom Bell the Sheriff how he feels about having 9 unsolved drug related murders in his county doesn’t he feel responsible for all that violence and his response was something along the lines of, “If people in this country didn’t want dope there wouldn’t any bodies to begin with.”
