My wife (right-handed) is left-eye dominant when she shoots. Murdoc is left-handed but chose to shoot right-handed. This seems to have worked out since his right eye is much better than his left.

But it’s a handy excuse when I’m not as accurate as I wish I was.

Me too. Right handed but EXTREMELY left eye dominant. Makes life interesting at times.

  2. Rustmeister Says:

I’m the same way, so to add to my confusion, I shoot rifles with my right eye, but pistols with my left.

  3. Eddy A Says:

I’m left handed, right eye dominant (and I shoot left). It’s only been an advantage to me (unless we’re talking bolties or bullpups)in competition/tactical courses/range shooting. I can switch to weak-side extremely easily and shoot almost as well.

  4. Ed Says:

I’m also right handed, but left eye dominant. Sucks.

Also, the SEAL should be telling the young lady to get her finger off the trigger. Still, nice to see the Navy doing some good PR work.

  5. Linoge Says:

Definitely left-eye dominant here as well, especially considering that my right eye’s prescription is about four times worse. I have managed to shoot both rifle and pistol with my right eye, but it occasionally throws my brain for a loop.

    [...] Chicks and guns: M4 goodness [...]

  7. Kirk Parker Says:

    Rusty,

Are we twins separated at birth? I do it your way; fortunately while I’m left-eyed I’m not profoundly so, and using my right eye for rifles hasn’t been a problem so far. It doesn’t hurt that most of my rifle shooting is done with either scopes or peep/ghost ring sights, so focus is less of an issue.

  8. DirtCrashr Says:

Me too – right/hand left eye, and like Robb I do graphics. It’s hard to keep both eyes open shooting the AR, with the Garand it’s even worse.

  9. Murdoc Says:

Wow. This seems a lot more common than I would have guessed.

  10. Takekaze Says:

It’s the same in archery. There you actually shoot with the hand on the side of your dominant eye. So a right handed person with a left eye dominance will pull the string with their left hand. At least in kyudo, not sure about western archery.

I’m right handed and have a right eye dominance, yet my left eye is better than my right, which atually makes me use my left eye every now and then.
