‘What are you going to do?’

June 15th, 2009

Oakland, Tennessee:

The homeowner heard what sounded like a knock on his window around 12:30am. When the noise grew, the homeowner found a neighbor, 32-year old Anthony Webb, breaking through his window with a rake.

The homeowner tells FOX13 that he told the man repeatedly to stop, but Webb’s reply was “What are you going to do?”

Don’t ask tough questions. You may not like the answer.

The intruder was shot three times, and was declared dead upon arrival by local police.

    Ask a silly question, get a stupid answer. . . .

  2. Bram Says:

In Oakland, TN, that is the answer I would have expected. Maybe he thought he was in Oakland, CA.

    LOL. Good point.

Can someone clue me into when we started calling bad guys “goblins”, and what the story is behind it?

I’m just curious; I’ve seen it a lot lately. When I was a kid (meaning before I was 30 ^_^), we called various undesirables “Trolls”, but never used the word “Goblin”.

Maybe it’s just me, but goblins always struck me as kinda cute and funny, so long as you don’t get water on them, or whatever. I’d be more inclined to shoot trolls, or demons; goblins I might just whack over the head with a stick…

I’ve read a lot of blogs for about 12 years, and I can remember when the only one using that term was Kim DuToit. I think he started that bit of English usage.

  8. Perplexed Says:

Thanks, that actually strikes a familiar chord; seems like somewhere tucked away I knew that.

  9. John Says:

Hey, perplexed; The use of the terms “goblin” or “Orcs” for the less _plesant_ members of society goes back more than 20 years to the writings of the late Col. Jeff Cooper, U.S.M.C. Ret.,founder of Gunsite in Paulden, Az. “All an unarmed man can do is flee from evil, but evil is not overcome by flight.”
