Accuracy competitions are common but I’ve often opined that we need public competitions of extreme conditions for automatic rifles. At the least, a 24 hour cold soak at minus 65, pull the gun out and shoot out a magazine. Another wonderful competition would be a the dust box where the gun sits in a box of appropriately graded dust for 24 hours. The Army does this sort of stuff as routine developmental testing but a public competition would yield results faster.
