Chicks and Guns

July 10th, 2009

Not quite what usually makes the rounds on the gun blogs:

CHARLESTOWN, Mass. (July 5, 2009) Sailors assigned to the gun drill team of USS Constitution demonstrate historic drills using a 24-pound Naval long gun. The display is part of Boston Navy Week, one of 21 Navy Weeks planned across America in 2009. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Mark O'Donald/Released)

The fam was in Boston last weekend and shoulda made the Constitution but opted for the Children’s Museum and the harbor islands instead. We did hear Ironsides’ guns though, echoing everywhere, when it did its annual turnaround on the 4th. Perhaps those very sailors were “manning” the guns.

Actually that night was pretty cool- at dusk 4 F15s from the 104th came in low off the harbor to fly over the city and Esplanade; I looked out the window (we were on the 20th floor)at the right moment and saw them- totally kickass, engines glowing pinky-orange in the dim light. Later we watched the fireworks, again from our window.

This weekend I believe is Tall Ships, which is kinda cool (we saw a smaller tall ships event in Mystic CT awhile back) but I can’t afford another weekend in Boston for awhile.

    WOW. Impressive.
Bet there’d be no problem with a CCW license there. Wouldn’t be able to carry it concealed. . .

I think that picture is brilliant!
