KDT's Survival Tip of the Day

Kim du Toit:

At my age, I think that if I had to do some kind of walking with a long gun in a SHTF situation, I’d take an M1 Carbine and and a couple of extra 15-round mags. Those 45 rounds would have to do. If I had to walk around with an AK and four 30-round mags, I’d probably keel over from exhaustion before I got to the end of the block.

M1 Carbine

I've been thinking of making an M1 Carbine my next purchase.

I want one too. The M1 was one of the "assault weapons" banned in New Jersey. (Last I heard, 1 gun owner had turned in a banned weapon.)

Maybe there are "legal" versions of the M1 available now - every other weapon seems to have come back. The HK91 is banned but there are PRT91's in the gun stores - same with the AR-15, FAL, etc...

The M1 Carbine always beats .223 AR's when the Box of Truth guys compare them.

Honestly, I think that I can call the M1 Carbine the first gun I ever thought was "cool." As a kid I read WW2 stories and saw pictures and thought, "that's a neat little weapon, good enough for certain roles in the military, and manageable for regular folks (or kids) in general purpose use."

I didn't know the M1 Carbine was banned as an "assault weapon." That's even more stupid than most of the "assault weapon" stupidity.

I'm tempted to make my next purchase another something that might be banned if the political situation changes in November, though.

Decisions, decision.

You didn't really have to show that to me, did you?

Why save money while there are vintage guns you don't own yet?
