Burress pleads guilty on felony charge
Facing the prospect of spending at least 3½ years behind bars, one-time Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress on Thursday accepted a plea bargain with a two-year prison sentence for accidentally shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub.
The former New York Giants wide receiver pleaded guilty to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a lesser charge than he had faced. He will be sentenced Sept. 22, and lawyer Benjamin Brafman said he expects Burress to begin serving his sentence immediately after.
If he’s well-behaved, he’ll likely serve 20 months.
Even if he decided to break the law and ignore common sense to carry it in, all he would have needed was a half-decent holster to avoid all this.

Is this charge a felony or misdemeanor?
I can’t say the he a had much of a chance of winning a court battle but if he just became prohibited it may have been worth the chance.

It’s over 365 days, so it’s a felony conviction.

Donte Stallworth gets drunk and kills a man with a car – he’ll serve 30 days in jail. Plaxico Burress accidentally wounds himself with a gun that he legally owns and he is sentenced to 2-years.
I hope this makes all the gun-fearing-wussies proud. Bloomberg – the prissiest, wussiest of them all certainly is. Our founding fathers are rolling in their graves.

I think Goodell has done a terrific job suspending players, and it has happened so much the last 2 years I think the young guys will start to take note, hopefully.
At least it will teach kids to not shoot themselves in the leg with an unregistered firearm accidentally, because you will serve 2-5 years in prison first offense.

Personally, i wish he had fought it all the way up to the SCOTUS. maybe take down NYC’s gun laws a few notches.

What is an “unregistered firearm”? Burress bought the pistol legally in Florida where he had a concealed carry permit. He let that license expire because there is no equivalent in NY/NJ.
