He then pointed to the time that he did hold and shoot a gun, and the "troubling" sense of power it gave him. Hello douche bag. We are not all uncontrolled psycho-at-heart idiots like you. On the one hand, it is far far safer than the United States. There is very little violent crime in contrast to where I grew up in GA and where I live now (VA/DC). However, I believe it is false to attribute that to gun ownership. There have been mass shootings there too even where it's damn near impossible to get your hands on a gun. There are many reasons for the difference, one of which is culture and another poverty. Germans, and most other Europeans for that matter (save Switzerland and Finland) do not put the same value on self-defense and independence that Americans do, due to the very different origins of our countries. THe best comparison is the UK, whose culture would be closest of all European countries to us. And we all know how well gun laws there have worked out. I’ve spent approximately 8 years in Germany.
