Another Iguana Fan Weighs In

Murdoc hopes you will indulge a little more illustration of the fan mail he receives about iguana hunting posts.

This one was from an expert on feral lizards:

JUST SO YOU EXPERTS KNOW HOW THEY GOT TOO FLORIDA THEY CAME ACROSS THE OCEAN ON DRIFT WOOD I HAVE 22 LIZARDS SO I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM. [emphasis Murdoc's]

Driftwood. Good stuff.

He closes with:

IF YOU KILL ANIMALS F*CK YOU I’M OUTTA HERE BITCH! [partially sanitized by Murdoc]

And then proceeded to leave nine (count-’em) more comments in the next hour. All in all caps. All on the same post. A few times he digressed off in the direction of ranting about the oil spill, but it was mostly regurgitation of the original comment. With plenty of wishes for harm and death to those who hunt iguanas. These peace-loving types sure are violent.

I decided to consider the additional comments to be an invasive non-native species and exterminated them.

    LOL
I’ve often thought it would be good if there was a pre-test filter to determine if a potential responder is 12 years old, or not. If it determines the candidate _is_ 12 years old, or effectively so, they get a message like: “Sorry, but you’re not tall enough to go on this ride.” Of course, if the response is in all caps, the message is just “GO AWAY”.

First, you find a conservative professor with a sense of perspective, at U Florida or wherever. Give him a $10 ‘grant’ to fund research into iguanas. He’ll pocket $5 for overhead, and can pay you $5 to harvest animals for research. Some graduate student would probably appreciate the chance to weigh their gonads and measure their blood for various pollutants (and might be able to get a real grant from NIH or EPA).

Don’t just eat them, research ways to commercialize iguana farming for meat and the USDA might have money for you.

My modest proposal is a filter that automatically deletes any comment in all caps, containing poor spelling, or bad grammar. I believe this would eliminate roughly 80 % of all comments on the Interwebs, but would hardly affect gunblogs.
