A sniper from the Jalalabad Provincial Reconstruction Team looks for enemy activity along the hilltops near Dur Baba, Afghanistan.

That appears to be a fairly standard M4 carbine with a big scope and a straight 20-round mag. Odd weapon for a “sniper.”

Actually, I just noticed that the image on Army.mil is dated November 2, 2006. It just showed up in Army images recently.
