<urdoc, As I posted in a comment to another story below: FWIW, AW1 Tim believes that there should be NO gun laws at all. Citizens ought to be able to purchase and own any firearm of their choosing, including automatic weapons, tanks, rocket launchers, whatever. However, AW1 Tim also believes in draconian punishments for those misusing their weapons and comitting crimes with them. In other words, own what you like, but if you use it to commit a crime, or act irresponsibly with it, you will pay a severe penalty. Now the real work begins. Tearing down the stupid restrictions that years of uncountered liberalism have erected to restrict our most fundamental right. Let's be clear about this. In EVERY case, liberals will argue that the solution to any problem is education. Whether it's teen pregnancy, alcohol or drug abuse, poverty, health issues, racism, diversity, et al. Ever issue, save for that of firearms is best served, according to their belief systems, by education. Only on the issue of firearms is the answer confiscation. Can anyone here imagine the hue and cry if the 1st Ammendment was treated as the 2nd is? Can you envision having to attend 'speech education' classes amd apply or a permit with a bacjground check in order to write letters to the editor, or address the local city council meetings? Van you comprehend a time where you could be arrested and jailed for speaking in public, or just talking on a city street, voicing an opinion or carry openly a placard wothout first having the requisite loscence? Mayne in Europe, but here. Perhaps if the liverals do finally sieze power. I know there ARE some who would favour such measires. However, any sane person would view such restrictions as anathema to freedom, to human rights. And yet, our right to own weapons to defend ourseves, to defend our liberties, is constantly under attack. Even with this ruling, the enemies of liberty (and that is exactly what they are) are planning to try and introduce lefislation to make it garder to obtain, ;et alone keep, firearms. Vigilence must now be our watchword, and liberty the countersign, lest we all be enslaved by our liberal friends. We have one a major victory, but we might well lose the war. Now is the time to redouble our efforts, and take the fight to our elected officials, to keep the pressure on them to roll back the many years of oppresive laws they have enacted. We CAN win the fight, but only by redoubling our efforts and keeping ourselves fixed on the target. Respects,

Bram: Things are that close. I know not every reader likes McCain. I don't, much, either, to be honest. But I wonder how this might have gone two years from now if an Obama-appointed justice was serving. I am afraid of how much damage an Obama might be able to do in 4 years. In 1976 there was a Ronald Reagan to run in 1980 after four years of disgust. I don't see anything in that ballpark today.
