Rampage linebacker Ville faces gun charge

Zach Ville says it was a big misunderstanding.

Ville, the Grand Rapids Rampage’s starting linebacker who helped the team return to the Arena Football League playoffs this spring, has been arrested by the Grand Rapids police on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

“It was a big misunderstanding because I didn’t know the Michigan law,” Ville said. “I’ve had the gun (a .38 caliber) for five years, while I was at Missouri. I only shoot it at the range. It wasn’t like it was out in the open; it was put in the trunk and kept away from people so it wouldn’t hurt me or anybody else.”

I’d say that the misunderstanding is that not knowing the law makes breaking it okay. The gun was loaded and in a duffel bag in the trunk.

He was stopped initially for throwing litter from his car.
