Murdoc's FNP-40 and CQC SERPA Holster by Blackhawk

Murdoc's FNP-40 and CQC SERPA Holster by Blackhawk

Was digging through some stuff the other night and came across this holster that I got last summer at Blackhawk’s writer conference. I asked for one for my FNP-40, but Blackhawk currently doesn’t make one specifically for that gun and I got one that fits a Glock 20 and S&W M&P .45. It was a little tight for my gun (’rubbing off the finish’ tight) and I set it aside until I could work on it a bit.

…Four months later…

A little work with a Dremel, a file, and some sandpaper has everything working smoothly.

Here are a couple of videos featuring Blackhawk’s Chuck Buis and the SERPA that I linked earlier.

Because it looks so Scary

October 29th, 2009

A commenter asked why I was planning to put a bayonet lug onto my AR’s gas block, noting that a bayonet would not be particularly useful in this configuration.

The main purpose would be use with a bipod, though I do have a Versa-Pod that I like.

Another purpose, of course, would be to up the “scary factor” of the gun. When people ask what I ‘need’ one of ‘those guns’ for, I could point to the lug and say “Because I can mount a sharp bayonet on it.”

I’m also hoping to acquire a shoulder thing that goes up, but they’re so tightly regulated that they can’t be found. My only hope at this point is a gun show loophole.

UPDATE: Maybe the shortage of shoulder things that go up is due to the fact that they’re all flowing over the border and arming Mexican drug gangs.

UPDATE 2: It didn’t occur to me to point out the cut-out on the barrel and tell them “that’s so I can mount a grenade launcher.”

What is that cut out actually called? Is there a term for it?

My AR is Back in Action

October 29th, 2009

Embarrassingly, Murdoc’s AR has been non-functional for some time. Last night I finally got things put back together. Here it is in its current configuration:

Murdoc's Black Gun

Murdoc's Black Gun

It started out as a DPMS Panther AP4 Carbine and I’ve made the following changes:

I’ve still got these to install:

I also sometimes use a generic forward vertical grip, a Versa-Pod bipod, and an MD2 LED Light/Laser from Pentagon Light. When I want to take longer shots, I slap an inexpensive Barska 40mm scope (not sure what model) on the rail.

I’ve still got to go function fire this thing and re-zero yet, so it’s not 100% ready to go. It’s certainly not the only gun in the cabinet, but I’ve been itching a bit since it went out of action this summer.

Does anyone else get to feeling a little antsy when guns are out of commission?

Armored Steiner Binoculars

October 20th, 2009

Legendary Long-Range Tactical Binocular Receives Ultimate Armor Upgrade

With their huge objective lenses and Porro-prism construction, the 15×80mm Military binocular and the more powerful 20×80 Military have become the easily recognizable staple of both the government operators and those who portray them on the silver screen. From the real-world hands of a lance corporal forward observer in the Persian Gulf, to the fictional grip of Lord Helmet as he was about to “comb the desert,” to government agents pursuing comic-book heroes at your local cinema, Steiner’s long-hinge Military binoculars have been making a difference.

Now, the mil-spec ISO 9001/2008 tested and approved 15×80 and 20×80 Military and Commander Military (compass equipped) binoculars have been upgraded with a new NBR (nitrile butadiene rubber) armor coating that is virtually impervious to any invasive compound it may encounter. Furthermore, the binoculars in this line have been outfitted with a pair of NPR flip-off covers that protect the objective lenses during periods of inactivity. Designed to be the most rugged, strongest military optical instrument ever made, these tough binoculars are also available to folks without a military ID.

Canned Tactical Bacon Redux

October 8th, 2009

Recently, I posted a pic of this good stuff:

I didn’t have much info on it at the time, but now Glenn Reynolds has linked to some details.

Says Reynolds:

I think of this as more of a Strategic Bacon Reserve.

You can never be too prepared.
