Police: Teens shot with AK-47

September 29th, 2008

Battle Creek, Michigan:

Police say two teenagers were shot with an AK-47 while walking a Battle Creek street Sunday evening.

Battle Creek Police say the teens, ages 18 and 17, were near the intersection of Gladys and Ardmoor in Bedford Township around 8 p.m. when the shooting happened.

One teen was treated at the scene for what was described as a “minor graze wound.”

And this:

Witnesses describe the shooter as a black male in his late teens driving a black Ford Explorer or Expedition.

So the witnesses can’t identify the shooter’s vehicle but they know what sort of rifle it was? Seriously?

Defense Tech talks about this weapon that would have fired caseless ammo: The Gun That Never Was

My guess is that we’ll be seeing this in the military (and then filtering down to us poor civvies) long before we see laser weapons.

Tapping Into What a Deer Sees, and Doesn’t

For now, thanks to decades of research into ungulate vision combined with the latest in military concealment technology, hunters can don a computer-generated camouflage with fractal designs that look nothing like a shrub or a tree, at least not to the human eye. Named Optifade, it’s being introduced this fall by W.L. Gore (the makers of the breathable Gore-Tex rain gear) and promoted as the first camouflage scientifically designed to make hunters invisible to deer.

Deer vision is about 20/40 and they are red-green colorblind. However, they’re very sensitive to light in the blue end of the spectrum and hav 270 degrees of vision.

Clerk shoots robbery suspect to death

Jackson, Mississippi:

Jackson police say they won’t charge a gas station clerk in the shooting death of a robbery suspect.

Police spokesman Lt. Jeffery Scott says a man wearing a clown mask and carrying a gun entered the gas station just after 9 p.m. Sunday.

The clerk chased the fleeing clown/suspect and shot him.
