Weapons flowing into Mexico

Say Uncle notes a recent story in the LA Times about how US automatic weapons are supplying the Mexican drug gangs blah blah blah.

He writes:

You know what would stop the flow of weapons in? Border control.

Crazy talk.

Recall that a couple of weeks ago I noted an MSNBC story that reported "bazookas" had been used by the gangs.

Are those also flowing over the border from the US?

Right Denied

New Sheriff in Town

Sebastian:

Orange County California has a new sheriff. What is one of her first acts?

"The good-cause threshold you have to meet has gone up," Nighswonger said. "The prior sheriff had more of a right-to-carry philosophy. Some of the things that were considered good cause won't be now."

Head over and read the comments, too.

Police

Say Uncle: It's very difficult to be critical of police action and not be assumed to be anti-police.

Indeed. Just like you can't question man-made global warming without being branded a "hater of the environment" or support the invasion of Iraq without being called a "warmongering Bush sell-out."

Go read the whole thing and the comments.

Arena Football linebacker facing gun charge

Rampage linebacker Ville faces gun charge

Zach Ville says it was a big misunderstanding.

Ville, the Grand Rapids Rampage's starting linebacker who helped the team return to the Arena Football League playoffs this spring, has been arrested by the Grand Rapids police on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

"It was a big misunderstanding because I didn't know the Michigan law," Ville said. "I've had the gun (a .38 caliber) for five years, while I was at Missouri. I only shoot it at the range. It wasn't like it was out in the open; it was put in the trunk and kept away from people so it wouldn't hurt me or anybody else."

I'd say that the misunderstanding is that not knowing the law makes breaking it okay. The gun was loaded and in a duffel bag in the trunk.

He was stopped initially for throwing litter from his car.

Expanding the Armory

So, what'd I do with the money I got as a gift for my birthday?

Since it's Donovan asking, you only get one guess.

Lots of background info on the Spanish FR8.

Sako TRG in Georgia

Steve Johnson: Sako TRG spotted in South Ossetia

It is unlikely Finland would allow arms exports to South Ossetia. It was probably bought on the civilian market and then exported. I cannot imagine that South Ossetia would have many snipers so this is feasible.

Where is Murdoc?

I didn't really mean to take a multi-day break, but it worked out that way.
